For Everything Else, There’s Massage
As a massage therapist, I’ll admit it’s not hard for me to find an excuse for you to get a massage. Can’t sleep? Massage can help. Feeling stiff? Massage can increase your range of motion, and get you moving better during your activities. Overwhelmed? Massage reduces blood pressure, stress, and increases focus. Slacking at work? Massage can increase your productivity and enhance your get up and go. It’s okay if you didn’t know that, because it’s my job to know it.
Everyone in Racine is an expert in something. I can’t fix my car when it breaks down, but I can help my mechanic with his chronic lower back pain. I can’t do my own taxes without errors or mental breakdowns, but I know I can make improvements to my accountant’s carpal tunnel flare up that occurs each spring, due to long hours of number crunching.
An experienced massage therapist can impact your quality of life by skillfully reducing tension in your problem areas. For those who seek massage as a way to help relieve or improve a chronic condition, our therapists at our Meadowbrook Country Club or Massage Wellness Center may recommend longer sessions or frequent visits initially, and then reduce care when symptoms are better.
When I recommend a Wellness Plan for someone, this decision is often impacted by a few things including schedule, budget, and need. If a client is unable to come in as often as recommended, we do the best we can in the time frame we have. In these cases, self-care and adjunct care become equally as important as the massage. Our number one goal is to help you to maintain the results of your massage for as long as possible. The massage goals that you discuss with your Massage & Stretch therapist, such as frequency on a massage table and time spent at home stretching, become crucial if you’re committed to feeling better.
So, when is Massage not enough? Just like it’s my job to know things about massage that you do not, it’s also my duty to know when I can’t help you; at least, not by massage alone. Sometimes my expertise isn’t enough. If you are receiving regular massage and doing a self-care routine, but your problem is still not resolving, it may be due to a muscle imbalance or conditions that need further assessment by a medical doctor. Additional care by a MD, Physical Therapist, or Chiropractor can frequently play an important role in improving quality of life and getting your symptoms under control. Massage & Stretch will gladly communicate with your medical team, upon request, to ensure the best care possible.
